SALT RIVER TUBING WINS

4TH NATIONAL CORPORATE

MESA, AZ (July 16, 2010) --The Department of Interior selected Arizona's Salt River Tubing & Recreation as the Take Pride in America's 2010 National Corporate Award winner for its resource stewardship program entitled "Canoe & Beach Patrol".   Henri and Lynda Breault, owners of the company, received the national award in Washington , D.C. on July 16th at a special ceremony and reception at the Department of the Interior.  Bob Stanton, Senior Advisor to Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Interior, and Lisa Young, Executive Director of Take Pride in America , presented the awards to the honorees.

Lisa Young said “When a citizen agrees to share their talents, skills and interests with their community, they are paying our nation one of the highest compliments possible by offering a most valued possession – their time.  These award winners have generously given of their time in service to our public lands, and it is a privilege to be able to recognize them for their efforts. Involving the public as stewards of the land are the cornerstones of democracy and volunteers exemplify the virtues of involvement.”

Each year, the award winners are selected by a panel of judges from hundreds of qualified nominations representing outstanding examples of public lands stewardship from across the country. This year, there are 15 National Award winners, representing projects and events in 13 states and the District of Columbia .

Henri Breault says, "We are honored to receive this prestigious award.  Responsible stewardship of our natural resources will guarantee the public quality recreational opportunities on public lands for generations.  We commend our SRTR Canoe & Beach Patrol Supervisors, Steve Farmer, Jake Magruder and Laurie Williams for their 110% efforts and hard work expended on this worthwhile program. They have inspired their SRTR teams, Boy Scout volunteers and the public to "lend a hand and protect our land" and become responsible stewards of our natural resources.  This is the 4th Take Pride in America National Award that Salt River Tubing has received for its commitment to the conservation of the Lower Salt River Recreational Area in Tonto National Forest .  This is an unparalleled accomplishment by any corporation since the inception of the Take Pride program twenty-five years ago”.

The national award honored Salt River Tubing & Recreation for "outstanding stewardship" for the development of the "Canoe & Beach Patrol" program in 2000.  The program's main goals are to promote the protection and conservation of the Lower Salt River's natural resources; provide litter and debris removal on the Lower Salt River's shoreline and picnic areas; rehabilitate shorelines and public walkways of the Lower Salt River; provide Boy Scout troops a venue for merit badge projects such as clean-ups, habitat restoration, water conservation, and trails/pathway restoration; and encourage resource stewardship and volunteerism on public lands by distributing litter bags to floating river users and picnickers.

Take Pride in America is a national partnership that aims to inspire a new generation of volunteers to put their love of country to work to improve our national parks, wildlife refuges, public lands, cultural and historic sites, playgrounds and other recreation areas.  For more information on Take Pride in America or Salt River Tubing, please visit www.takepride.gov and www.saltrivertubing.com.

The Eastern High Sierra Packers Association and the Bishop Mule Days are proud to recognize Jennifer Roeser as the first-ever 'Packer of the Decade.'

"Jennifer has earned peer respect as a packer's spokeperson and public access advocate, and over the years has acquired an impressive list of accomplishments and contributions, among them:

She has been active in the Eastern HIgh Sierra Packers Association (EHSPA) in various official capacities; testified in front of Congressional Committees on the packers' behalf; been a board member of the Bishop Chamber of Commerce and Inyo County Water Commission; attended sports shows for the EHSPA; and been on the board of the National Forest Recreation Association."

In addition to the accolades for Jennifer, she and her husband Lee were also awarded the 2010 Most Honored Packers.  Lee spent his youth at his family's pack station - Mammoth Lakes Pack Outfit - and Jennifer worked with her parents at McGee Pack Station.  After they married - they operated McGee Creek pack station together for many years.  Lee now packs for the Inyo National Forest, and Jennifer keeps the pack station going strong.

It is quite an honor to be regognized by their peers, and they are both well deserving.  They are reknown in the Eastern HIgh Sierra for their high quality standards of care for their customers and care for their livestock.

Congratulations to Jennifer and Lee!!

Sunset Magazine features NFRA Members and Camping

Kudos to Sardine Lake Resort - for a lovely photo of a family fishing on Lower Sardine Lake in the June edition.  The article highlights Sierra City and the beautiful Lakes Basin where there are numerous NFRA members with wonderful resorts and horseback riding.  Gold Lake Lodge is also mentioned.  After reading the article - you want to jump in the car and head for a relaxing weekend with lakes galore, wildflowers - and horses!

The May edition gives a great boost to camping.  The article provides details on camping for families, solitude seekers, and first timers.  Several national forest campgrounds are listed as 'perfect campgrounds.'  The Mt. Hood National Forest, Inyo National Forest, Dixie National Forest, Medicine Bow National Forest and the Shasta Trinity National Forest are all mentioned.  See if your favorite site is listed.

And the recent July edition - again features camping as the cover story.  There is a funny story from a novice camper who checks out some great locations in an Airstream.  She does a good job of articulating some 'road rules' that might be helpful for camp hosts to hand out!  Her trip takes her along Highway 1 on the Pacific Ocean - so the Los Padres National Forest is mentioned several times.  Good promotion for RV's, camping and the national forests.
